November 14th, 2009: I WANT TO MEET PEOPLE IN THE STREET TOMORROW

It's 10 days since November 4th and I'm up and down all the time. I'm so happy that Obama won, and by such a landslide. I was lucky enough to be in Harlem on the corner of Martin Luther King and Adam Clayton Powell as the results came in. There were a lot of tears and much rejoicing. I felt excited and suddenly visible in a political system I had never had much faith in or felt represented by. And standing among my brothers and sisters on such a historically important and beautiful intersection was a great stroke of luck for me. All the while, in the back of my mind, I wondered how the results were coming in for the 2 propositions in California that I had my eye on, prop 2 and prop 8. Prop 2 passed. The animals have been promised more room in their death cages, and I'm so happy about that. All the effort my friends and I put into giving them some rights was a success. But a majority of California voters have stated in the voting booths that they would like our state constitution to discriminate against GLBT people. I'm trying not to be hurt by California, the place I was born, voting in such a disturbing proposition. 8. That's the number. Can stand for infinity. Right now for intolerance, ignorance and bigotry. We have to do something. Now. All the excitement and promise that of Obama being elected... this take over by the people of the white house can be funneled into this equal rights struggle... to be seen as equal no matter who we love. Equality for all is what we demand.
Let's all take part in these marches for freedom, together. There are actions being taken all over the country right now. Join me on the streets and sign this petition. There is so much hope in the air, let's start using it for change!

I really believe that things are changing quickly. Now we get to step up to the plate and demand to see the kind of world we want to live in. Plus it will be a ton of fun, right?
